The Batty Girl Blog

I read for fun and nothing more! If you're looking for deep, thought provoking or intellectual ramblings, you're lost!

Accidentally Dead, Again

Accidentally Dead, Again - Dakota Cassidy Predictable, as ever, with similar plot lines as the other books in the series. Cozy read with fun characters, there was less of the obnoxious Nina crap after the initial opening... she was toned down a lot. I hope it stays that way.

The Darkest Night

The Darkest Night - Gena Showalter Ya know, for having surprisingly little sex in it, I sure felt like I was reading a sex-centric book.

Love Hate Relationship

Love Hate Relationship - Jessica Prince Jessica Prince instantly became one of my favorite authors with this book. It was soooo good. It was sexy without being filthy, it was tense without being angsty, he was actually an asshole, as described. She didn't have to repeatedly say it on every page to try and force the reader to believe it, unlike some series *cough* Beautiful Series *cough*.
I loved these characters, they were believable and had strong personalities, even the sideline characters were great, I can't wait to read the spin-offs. I laughed so hard at one point, I peed a little, it was just a great read. I started this book and I didn't stop until I was finished, well I took a bathroom break :P

Run Rabbit Run

Run Rabbit Run - Kate Johnson I'm so sad. I want more wacky Sophie, she's way better than Stephanie Plum. I liked the way the author wrapped the series if this is the end. It was a sweet ending and what Sophie and Luke deserved without being too cheeseball.
But Still, dangit, I want more books! I want more Harvey, Xander, Angel, Luke, Maria, Docherty and Sophie!

Ugh, anyways, thank you for a wonderfully entertaining series, I loved it! <3

Unfortunate

Unfortunate - Lois Greiman, Tara Daun Great first chapter. The end was like Batman and Robin, not saving the day. Wth?

You Only Witch Once: A Wicked Witches of the Midwest Short

You Only Witch Once: A Wicked Witches of the Midwest Short - Amanda M. Lee I really, really loved this flashback to the girls' teen years. I liked seeing their personalities blooming from their parents' points of view. I really enjoyed seeing Bay and Chief Terry together. Their relationship is referenced a lot in the other books so I really enjoyed the vignette we got to see of them in this short. I hope there's more of them to come :)

It was all of the things you've come to expect from a Midwest Witch book, with a little less angst and little more heart, even though you'd expect the reverse.
SPOILER ALERT!

Witch Me Luck

Witch Me Luck - Amanda M. Lee I think it might just be me, because I don't have a sister just two older brothers, but if my sister had acted the way clove did or talked to me the way she talked to Bay, holy smokes, she'd have bigger problems than whether or not her crap ass mealy mouthed boyfriend was a murderer or not. Seriously, Clove's pissed off her sister turned in evidence in a HOMICIDE investigation? Wtf?! Clove gets zero passes for that imo and Bay should be ashamed of herself for having zero backbone. I get they have issues and they act like teenage twits from time to time, but that scenario was a bit unbelievable. I can see there being some drama about turning in the hat had it been one of her cousins butt's on the line, but that bozo Sam, no way! Everyone can be a brat at times but that wasn't being a brat, nasty words exist to define how Clove was behaving. Bay was also disappointing, I understand her childhood bully reemerging throwing her for a loop but that really didn't have anything to do with how she dealt with Clove. The rest of the cast was hilarious and awesome, as per the usual. I just didn't really enjoy this book as much as the others. The two cousins were just a bit too much for me this time.

Flayed

Flayed - Karen Marie Moning Ugh, I am so tired of "the nine," and the endless obsession with their junk. God, it's been so many books of the same crap. I feel like the story stopped two books back.

Why was Dani/Jada's story hijacked? I thought we were done with "Ms. Lane" and her endless and repetitive narrative. Nothing happened in this book, the story barely progressed, aside from some cheap soap-like plot devices that were, I guess, supposed to fill us with shock and awe but fell completely flat.

This entire book could have been condensed into maybe two decent chapters. I don't know if the author has some great idea planned out and all of this fluff was necessary to set up the conclusion, or what. I sincerely hope that's the case. It makes me super sad, I used to love this series and now I'm not sure I even care how it ends.

Unleashed (Chrissy McMullen Book 8)

Unleashed (Chrissy McMullen Book 8) - Lois Greiman So funny! It was a departure from the usual story line with Chrissy, and I had no idea where it was going. It was a really strange, but nice, change of pace. I love this series. It's one of the few book series I read more than once.

Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic

Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic - Meghan Ciana Doidge Ooo I totally loved this book! I could tell who dun it, so to speak, very early on, but I didn't care. I'm not sure the author didn't intend for it to be this way. Either way, I still loved every bit of it!

Death of a Dapper Snowman

Death of a Dapper Snowman - Angela Pepper Cute quick read

Charming cozy mystery with an interesting plot and well developed characters. I look forward to reading more in the series.
SPOILER ALERT!

A Hidden Fire

A Hidden Fire - Elizabeth Hunter I loved the first two-thirds of the book, but when it tumbled it went right over the cliff for me. B's reaction to circumstances didn't at all mesh with anything I would expect from her or any other rational intelligent woman like her. 3 stars because I'll likely read the second installment and pray it turns around and 1 star for the author's generosity listing the first in a series for free.
